WASTE MANAGEMENT II: More cash is good, but more commonsense is better!

This is the second part of the series on ''Waste Management''.

sijinius.comThere is a verse in the bible that says, ‘Go to the ant you sluggard and learn. It has no leader but stores up its food in summer in preparation for the winter’. The ant in nature teaches us to plan for the future by saving. And if the ant will survive the winter, then it also has to manage whatever it stores up so that it lasts throughout winter. So why do we think we are wiser and should fare better than nature when we don’t save or budget our resources?

There are principles that have kept the earth in orbit for years. These are also principles that rich men/nations have used over the years to achieve great wealth, and they are timeless principles that you can’t break- unless you break yourself against them. If you want to be successful, you need to manage your finances successfully. If you want to be financially free, you must save. If you want to be financially independent, you must have your expenses under control- your control (your expenses shouldn’t control you). You must budget.

Do you feel you have lost control of your spending habits? Do you feel you can’t seem to save because you earn too little? Well, while it may be true that you earn little, but it is also true that you need to manage your waste- YOU NEED WASTE MANAGEMENT. I am using this article to show you one more principle that impoverishes millions of people very fast- faster than the corruption in the government. It is poor waste management.

While it is good to have a high income, or earn more money through multiple streams of income (I will sure cover those too in other articles), it won’t all make sense if you continue to waste your hard earned resources through poor waste management skills. Learn how to recycle money in the water, paper, food, and everything you use/misuse every day when you waste them. I am not saying ‘start a recycling business’ (though that will be great too as recycling is a money spinner in Nigeria today). I am saying AVOID WASTAGES! Don’t pay N20, when you can pay N15. Don’t use two plates, when one can be managed. Don’t buy two shirts (even if it is cheaper) when you only need one…and so on and so forth.

So if you think you need more money, you may be right. But I can bet you will be shocked to know how much you are losing every day simply because you don’t daily track your expenses and live on a budget. Even if it is just N1 you are losing, remember that N1, 000, 000 is actually N1 in a million places. So, start to track every naira that’s yours now, so that it does not become someone else’s simply because they have more commonsense!
