Now, no one should be thinking I, Sijinius, have arrived at all because I talk about personal finance. I might have had some success in my short stay on earth, but I am far from being a success.
Yes, I have achieved some success and done a few things others might only dream of doing. Things like graduating best student of my high school class; becoming a medical doctor; being chapel prefect of my high school and president of the school fellowship at the same time (only the second person to have achieved that at that time); winning a million naira on national TV; composed, written and recorded great songs in a musical studio, founded an NGO in university; being an internationally read blogger; read the whole bible at least three times over before graduation; started a company; understanding the Forex market enough to trade it successfully, an acclaimed speaker and writer, social motivator and leader, among other things. But all those I count for naught compared to where I am going. My best years are ahead of me.
Why? Read on.
Lasting success is not about what you achieved, but what your achievements achieved and continue to achieve, even after you are gone. That is why you see people who impact others being more celebrated, and longer than people who only acquired material things.
Unfortunately, many do not realize on time that success does not consist in material possessions and 'memorabilia' acquired, but in the lives transformed by it.
Let me share with you 5 principles that ensure lasting success, and which I daily chase after to ensure my footprints remain ingrained long after my feet have left these prints in the sands of time. Keyword: it takes ONE to be rich.
THE POWER OF ONE
- Focus: You must have heard focus being defined as an acronym meaning 'Follow One Course Until Successful'. To be truly rich isn't about having multiple income streams. It is about earning an income even while you sleep. But that only starts when you focus on developing ONE income stream by becoming very skillful in ONE thing enough to do it well, even if you are doing it half-awake.
Becoming skillful refers to being excellent at what puts food on your table; you have become exceptionally good at what you do for a living. You shouldn't practice until you get it right...you should practice until you can't miss it or get it wrong- even if you wanted to, even if you did it while slumbering.
Be professional about your profession. You will only be rich from your profession when people need someone to do a job in your field and it is you/your company that first comes to their mind, because you have left a lasting positive impression in their minds. Someone once said, "Professionals are people who can do their job when they don't feel like it. Amateurs are people who can't do their job when they feel like it." - Goals: You need a goal, at least ONE target. In fact, you can't focus without an object of focus. If there is any one thing that differentiates successful people from unsuccessful people, it is in goal-setting. The most successful people are masters are setting and meeting targets.
Does Lewis Hamilton win a F1 race that has no finish line? Does Usain Bolt keep running without an end in sight? No!
If you still wonder why you have not succeeded at anything, or achieved lasting success, it is probably because you suck at defining a goal for yourself, and keeping it in focus. If you talk about achieving true success, yet have not defined well-stated, measurable and time-bound goals by which you measure your progress in life, then you do not know what you are talking about. No one succeeds outside of a goal. - Network: No man is an island. The earlier you realize you need people, the better for you. However, stop trying to looking for many, look for ONE. Someone once said that we are only a maximum of six people away from anyone in this world. What that means is that you know someone who knows someone who knows someone who knows someone who will bring you face to face with president Obama.
Networking isn't about getting a lot of people to do a lot of things for you. It is about getting a lot of things from one person, who can get another person to do likewise. If you are not very rich, it is because you have not networked enough with the right set of people. Look for someONE today who is rich and successful, and start to do what he does.
- Automate: Like I mentioned earlier, lasting success is not about what you achieved, but what your achievements achieved and continue to achieve. That is only possible when you have automated your strategy, processes, and can teach anyone anywhere in the world to do exactly what you did to succeed. And they also go on to achieve similar or greater success by your automated system.
The most successful companies and entrepreneurs and professionals are those who have created a system that will outlive them. They build corporations and franchises and foundations and networks that continue their legacies. Live today with the mindset that your name should and will outlive you.
While some people attempt to do this by giving birth to (male) children, a good name isn't only perpetuated by biological children, but by legacies.
Automate what you do. Build ONE system. Write a book/autobiography. Invent a solution. - Habit: Repeat it, ONE more time. After you have done all these, you must be able to do it again, and again, and again...till it not only becomes a part of you, but it becomes you (-can't be differentiated from you). Your success should bear your signature, your modus operandi, your insignia, your traits and vice versa.
When people see someone else doing something you regularly do the very way you do it, they should say "That is how Sijinius does it" or "You are copying Sijinius", etc.
Make an habit of success.
In summary, these five are distinct, yet they are interwoven and similar. In other words, you will achieve lasting success when you focus on finding ONE income stream and become very skillful at making money with it, measuring your progress in life ONE goal at a time, and using the power of networking to find ONE person that knows another person who can help you achieve your dreams as you go along. You can then automate all that into ONE powerful, foolproof system that can be repeated ONCE, and again and then again eventually creating a success habit for anyone anywhere in the world.
We neglect these principles to our own peril and financial doom. We master them to our own financial benefit and boom.
