Recently I discovered this great Nigerian Kevin Olusola, through the Kenyan Oscar winner Lupita Nyong'o (they are friends). And then of course, the group Pentatonix through Kevin.
Olusola is the son of a Nigerian Psychiatrist Oluwole Olusola from Ondo state and a Grenadian nurse. He is a beatboxer, cellist, saxophonist, and singer- and yes, he does sing so well. He also speaks Mandarin Chinese.
He is the 'percussions' of the wonderful acapella group Pentatonix, who won NBC's The Sing off in 2011.
Aside his musical genius, he is also a Christian and isn't shy about his beliefs. He got admitted for Medicine (pre-Med) in Yale, Princeton, Stanford, University of Pennsylvannia and Brown university but chose to go to Yale school of music instead of medicine, after passing his pre-meds in Yale.
(It is the same with many of us in Nigeria, we only pursue our professions -Medicine, Law, Accountancy, etc, and leave our passions aside simply because of the poverty in the land. Whereas if we had the same opportunity as Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, to go to London to study Medicine, we too would have opted instead for the Royal School of Music. lol. I promise I will share my OWN Christmas song with you before the 25th, if you've not heard it.)
