YOU SHALL NOT SLEEP WITH ANOTHER MAN’S WIFE
This is one sin that many do not know causes poverty, and can destroy years of toil, sweat and hard work, not to talk of the pain the sin brings to families –both of the woman (another man’s wife), and the man who slept with her.

Prov 6: 27-33 (KJV) Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned? Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned? So he that goeth in to his neighbour's wife; whosoever toucheth her shall not be innocent. (27-29)

When a man, however rich, goes about sleeping with married women, he brings a curse upon himself and the work of his hands directly. And indirectly, his actions are carried over into his generations, and the case of David is the best biblical example of this. 2Sam 11:3-4, 12: 9-10.

David took another man’s wife and the effect of that sin cost him peace in his kingdom, the life of his sons- the baby conceived, Amnon and Absalom, and it became a great blot in his character and manhood (as his son slept with his concubines and overthrew his kingdom).

In Gen 20:1-7, we see the case of Abraham and Abimelech. Abraham told Sarah his beautiful wife (who scholars tell us was his half sister anyway) to pretend as if they were merely siblings and not a couple, in order for his life to be spared by the lawless people of Gerar who might want to covet her for themselves. And true to his prediction, the king of that land -Abimelech, took her to be his wife. It took God’s intervention for his home to be restored.

And there are men like that even today who have their own wives but still covet and lust after others’ wives. And they won’t rest until they achieve their aim of sleeping with their neighbor’s wife, in many cases being killed by a jealous lover (Prov 6: 34-35), or suffering untold hardship and poverty as in the case of David.

Around me today, I see and have seen wealthy men who became destitute and poor after lusting after married women and due to their inability to control their libido continued to sleep with them. God isn’t mocked, whatever a man sows, he reaps. If you do not control lust, it will control your wealth and family and life, bringing in its wake, destruction and manifold sorrow to you and your family.

THE SIN SERIES IV: YOU SHALL HONOR GOD AND PUT HIM FIRST
When a man disregards God as the source of his wealth and prosperity, it can result in poverty, ill health or even death.  A common Yoruba proverb says that ‘A river that forgets Its source will eventually dry up’.

To honor and put God first is to recognize him as the creator of life, the sustainer of our lives and the provider of all good things to us.
The following scriptures point this out Gen 4:6-7, Deut 8:18, Prov 3: 9-10, Jam 1:17, Ps 23, 68: 19, 103: 2-5

In Luke 12: 16-21, we see Jesus give a parable of the rich fool who did not regard God in his plenty. This sin is a sin of pride and conceit- becoming so full of ourselves, believing that everything we have and acquired was solely by our efforts and wisdom. Ps 62:10, Matt 6:19-21. Little wonder the wise man in Prov 30: 8-9 requested of God that he does not make him too rich lest he forgets God in his plenty.

No matter how rich or comfortable in life you become, never forget that all you have comes from him, and even your very breath is because he allows it. Be thankful, be generous and remain blessed.
